Snuggled in Hope Quilts: How do we do it?
In 2020 we needed to change our plans and still meet the requests of volunteers who have continued to be faithful to our mission.
Volunteers come to our monthly "Drive Through/Drop Off" days at 1st Presbyterian Church in Mount Gilead the first Monday of each month from 10-11:30 a.m., and in-person sewing days at Dayspring Wesleyan in Marion on the second Thursday of each month from 10:00a.m.-3: p.m. following the current Social distancing and face mask restrictions.
(see Sewing/Tie Day page for our exact schedule of the year,
or Schedule an Event tab for more information).
It is a new twist to an old-fashioned
"Quilting Bee".
Volunteers gather to work on all parts of the creation and construction of the quilts. You DO NOT have to know how to sew, or quilt, because there are plenty of other opportunities to help. Our volunteers have many levels of experience, but all have one thing in common-coming together to donate their time and talents. We are a diverse group; many of our volunteers do not quilt or sew. We need people to press wrinkles out of fabric, cut, count and sort fabrics. We will lead you through the process and find a place that you feel comfortable.
There is always space at our tables for volunteers.
There are sometimes mini-lessons, we have take it-make it-and-return it kits available, and a lot of sharing -not just ideas about sewing, either.
Supplies are provided, but if you are more comfortable with your own, feel free to bring them along. And bring a friend or two along while you're at it. There are plenty of good old fashioned conversations going on among our volunteers.
In order to find out more about these events, we need an email to send the information, or check out our posts on Facebook.
We offer a light lunch, or you can bring your own, and stay all day, or stop in for a short time, see what we are about and how you can help. It feels good to be making a difference in the life of a child who lives with a serious illness.
Our winter weather policy:
If Mount Gilead Schools or Marion City Schools are closed on a scheduled day, so are we. If in doubt, don't risk coming out!
